Makapuu on a pretty big day. I went out at 8am the next day and it was even bigger. I found a bodysurfer with his wood handboard way out on the right side--he was taken out by the rip current. He was tired, and he rested on my board and then I helped him get in. Another guy got blasted by a huge wave and started freaking out with a panic attack-I stayed with him for a while until another huge one broke way outside and covered the bay! He went in. I caught a lot of waves that day and on my last wave, the white water pushed me towards the left parking lot side-(which was now a rocky shore with no sand.) I knew I was in trouble and made my decision, I caught a big whitewater, turning as hard as I could, and ended up on the sand part of the beach--just missing the rocks by 10 ft!--I dragged myself up the very steep sand and was happy to have survived a massive day at Makapuu.
In the old days on a day like this, the only guys you would see way out there would be the old timers with their awesome super fast wooden paipo boards. Don't stick your head up when those guys go screaming by--you might get scalped!
