KenuHawaii
is the only production sled  entirely made in Hawaii!

Do not settle for cheaply made sleds.

Why is this important? When your life is on the line, you want a product that is proven with years of hard service. Our products have been used by the Hawaii Lifeguards and many others for many years and has proven the KenuHawaii sandwich construction to be a top performer and very long lasting.

We are the only manufacturer making their production boards entirely in Hawaii. We don't scrimp on materials or do things like use tape to bond on our top pads  -or use heat to laminate our rail, tail, and nose foams. While heat lamination is easier, fast, and more profitable for the manufacturer- these foams are notorious for delamination when bonded to polypropylene cores. KenuHawaii's labor intensive cement based bonding of these skins is by far more long lasting.

We also use Ken's famous secret hot glue foam seam.

Others have tried to copy it and the technique, have failed, and gave up and don't worry to much about a splitting seam- they only care if you buy their board. I usually end up fixing competitor's boards here in Hawaii because no one else has the years of experience or a clue how to do it strongly and make it look new again.

My 20 years of being in the retail bodyboard business has taught me what is a good bond.  In the old days bodyboards were heat laminated with Arcel or polyethylene cores. These lasted pretty good although the qualities of the foam had flaws. Arcel was strong but dented, polyethylene was good but was heavy and porous- so it absorbed water.

Polypropylene foam came along as the new generation of foam. It was light, water resistant and had good memory. This means that if you dented it, the foam sprang back to where it was and it would not show a dent. One thing polypropylene was is weak. It had to be reinforced by using a top and bottom thick ABS plastic for our sled use. Ken Brown came up with this concept for the Kenu sled years ago and it has been copied by others. We have still stuck to a higher path- not making shortcuts or using cheap materials or labor. We make these boards in Hawaii to last in Hawaiian conditions
and take much pride in our work-

Aloha!
