Kenu Water Research board-
Years ago, Kenu Hawaii LLC invented this type mono
hull research sled at the request of a USGS researcher
and has made hundreds of
these boards in the last 5 years, and they
have been used by the USGS, governments, and researchers
all around the world! Various board lengths
are available. Notice the large fiberglass fins underneath
the board that keep it tracking straight and smooth.
The fins are installed in two standard fin boxes and
are very strong and easily removable. A recent new
development is a very robust rear rounded tail that
features a special type of foam that can absorb the
bumps and grinds of the board being lifted and dropped
down the sides of canals. The large hook up cup attachment
points are a new development that makes it easier
to hook up standard carabineers. Because Kenu actually
makes these boards ourselves, Kenu is able to take
your special needs and instruments and quickly produce
a custom state of the art research board--try that
with any overpriced competitor.
The
36" board is for smooth water like canals,
etc. with standard or miniature equipment. If you
have fast moving water or heavier equipment than
you will want to use the 48" board. The
beaded foam core is very water resistant. The exterior
special plastic is very durable and creates a sandwich
construction that makes the board extremely stiff
and strong. Whether you have RDI, Sontek or
other type of instruments, any size hole can be
made at no extra charge to accommodate the latest
miniature sensors. If you have extreme water
flow conditions in your area, Kenu can do a special
bullet proof modification to the hook ups to make
them extremely strong.
Hooking
up and installing equipment is easy- We'll make
sure the proper secure attachments points are made
for the equipment and the sensor will accurately
fit snugly in the instrument hole. There are various
ways and areas on the board to attach carabineers
and ropes that you can choose from. Various rail
colors and other custom requests like extra handles,
extra inserts, Logos, serial numbers, etc.- can
be done at little or no expense. Custom made instrument
brackets and underwater instrument brackets are
available too.
Want
to purchase the 48" or 36" board, or have
a custom one made? Please Email Ken first with your
requirements and, and when everything has been agreed
upon, you will be sent a special secure Paypal link
to pay. This special link will be a more detailed
receipt of what you purchased, rather than just
Paypaling to our email address.
Do
you want this type sled because your tri-hull or
Rivercat can't handle fast water? Call or email
and let me figure out how to adapt your instruments
to my custom sleds. References from private and
USGS researchers available.
Included in the board price is the large top quality
fiberglass fins and shipping to the continental
USA. Call (808) 429-2973 for the prices and

Teledyne
Ryan, and many other companies around the world make and
sell hardware and sled type craft that measures and surveys
river, canal, and stream water. If you wanted to
make a lake, harbor, stream, canal, ocean, and river surveyor
and measuring type craft yourself it would be hard and
probably not economically justifiable. Some the sensors
and instruments sold by different companies around the
world are called ADCP, or acoustic doppler current profiler.
They work in 2d, 3d, 3 axis and have different charachteristics
like side looking, multi frequency, continuous flow monitoring.
. Sontek/YSI makes a hydroboardfor measuring different
water conditions too as well as other trimaran and catamaran
styles as shown on the USGS website. It uses a sensor.
The USGS website shows the deployment of these and other
craft including an old picture of a very old Kenu Hawaii
(actually a Turbo Surf Hawaii) sled--from approximately
2005 --this was the first single hull, bodyboard like
sleds made that we are aware of. Some of the terms and
